Glasgow school creates new generation of Gaelic speakers
Today Education Secretary Michael Russell met with staff, pupils and parents at Glasgow Gaelic School.
Mr Russell was given a tour of the school by some of the first pupils ever to attend the school for their sixth year of education.
He also discussed implementation of Curriculum for Excellence with headteacher Donalda McComb and her staff and was pleased to meet members of the parent council, many of whom are actively involved in the school.
Mr Russell said:
“The Scottish Government is absolutely committed to helping to grow a new generation of Gaelic speakers. There’s no doubt that Gaelic medium schools, such as the one in Glasgow, have a key role to play in making sure this happens.
“That’s why I am pleased to hear that the Glasgow Gaelic School is thriving and expanding – with the first ever S6 pupils attending the school this year.
“Schools across Scotland are now putting Curriculum for Excellence into practice and Glasgow Gaelic School is no exception.
“From the links with RSMAD, which sees traditional music students working with pupils, to the sculpture studio project, where the S3 art and design class work with artist Jimmy Durham, there are great examples of Curriculum for Excellence in action in the school.”
