St Andrew’s Day, 30 November, is Scotland’s national day.
It is a time for everyone at home and friends across the globe to celebrate Scotland and its people – our history and culture but also our diverse and vibrant contemporary society.

This year, schools and early years settings across the country are being invited to participate in a competition to help celebrate St Andrew’s Day.

The competition is open to all publicly funded schools and early years settings to design a poster with the theme of Scotland’s food and drink, providing an ideal opportunity to not only celebrate Scotland’s national day but to demonstrate all that pupils have been learning about global citizenship under Curriculum for Excellence and where food comes from.

The winning posters in three categories will be displayed at the Scottish Parliament during its family weekend – the weekend before St Andrew’s Day – and win £200 for their school!

The competition closes on Friday 12 November so there’s still time for schools and early years settings to get their entries in.  Further information and competition terms and conditions are available on the Scottish Government website.

St Andrew’s Day also provides an opportunity for children and young people to think about and raise awareness of child poverty issues, as they showcase all they’ve been learning throughout the year about Scotland’s culture, place in the world and issues such as global citizenship.
