St Patrick’s Primary School in Denny has been praised for moving classes to a nearby church hall after damage to their heating and water systems.

Education Secretary Michael Russell has highlighted the move – which happened as a result of the recent cold weather – as a good example of how school life can continue despite closures.

Visiting the school’s new ‘premises’, Mr Russell said:

“The cold weather and snowfall experienced across Scotland at the end of November and start of December was the most extraordinary we’ve seen at that time of year since the mid 60s.”

“The occasional snow day can be good fun but with the cold weather expected to continue for a while yet, I would like to congratulate the council, the staff and pupils of St Patrick’s and everyone else who has played a part here, for some smart thinking in difficult times.”
