Billy Singh has been the Scottish Campaign Manager at Show Racism the Red Card for four years and is committed to tackling the scourge of racism that affects our society and believes we all have a role to play by challenging racist attitudes.Show Racism the Red Card is an UK wide anti-racist charity, which was established in January 1996.
The aim of our organisation is to produce anti-racist educational resources, which harness the high profile of professional footballers to combat racism.

“Our educational materials are very accessible and have been highly successful over many years. Footballers are role models for young people who will listen to them and learn from them. We have added to the range and quality of our resources over the years, but the central resource remains our Show Racism the Red Card film, which features professional footballers.”

In Scotland, we also have the job of trying to combat racism in football and we have built up a pool of role models including actors, professional sports people and footballers as patrons.

One of the highlights of our work remains the interaction of the players with young people at our events at Football Clubs. This work continues with the Show Racism the Red Card coaches, such as former professional and Scotland player Derek Ferguson (pictured above) who promotes the anti-racist message in schools and youth and community groups across Scotland.

Racism has no place in Scotland and we want to get that message across loud and clear through our creative competition. Supported by the SQA our 2011 competition has categories for primary, secondary and special schools and further education colleges. Entries are now welcome from individuals and class groups and the competition runs until Friday 28 January 2011.

All entrants have to do is develop a piece of creative work that gets across loud and clear our message that racism is not welcome in Scotland.  This could take the form of artwork, poetry, creative writing, multimedia, music, dance, drama and more, in fact anything that is creative, inspirational and stimulated by the anti-racism theme. Scotland should be a fair and inclusive society, so please be part of our competition to show that you support this ambition.
