Engage NewsThis afternoon during a debate on Scottish studies, Minister for Learning Alasdair Allan announced that the £150,000 Heritage Education Travel Subsidy scheme would be continued for another year.

Here’s what pupils from Tayvallich Primary School had to say about their experiences of the scheme:

On the 20th September we travelled to Bannockburn and Stirling Castle for part of our Project.

We are the Primary 4-7s from Tayvallich, a small village on the West Coast of Scotland.

At Bannockburn we met a really cool soldier who dressed Holly as a knight and Megan as a peasant warrior. We held all the weapons and imagined we were using them in battle and even made our own schiltron  (advancing on Mrs.Condie!).

Afterwards we all got a chance to dress-up but we could hardly lift the chainmail.

We also found out what Robert the Bruce looked like from forensic evidence.

Stirling Castle was sensational and everyone made our visit special. We had a tour and dressed in medieval costumes.

Being there made our project more interesting and real for us. We learnt loads about the past and had a really fun day. It made getting up at 6.00am worth it!”
