Recognition on World Teachers’ Day
We have thousands of excellent hard working teachers throughout Scotland who are delivering every day for our children and young people. Today is World Teachers’ Day and an excellent opportunity to pause, reflect and recognise the contribution that our teachers make.
We know that the foundations of a successful education system rest in the quality of teachers and the leadership they provide. As Graham Donaldson said in his report on teacher education: “high quality individuals deliver high quality outcomes for our children and young people.”
When I visit schools I see lots of examples of creative and imaginative teaching. I also see the impact that teachers have when they encourage aspiration and achievement.
Teaching is a complex and a challenging job which requires the highest standards of professional competence and commitment. I am continually impressed by Scotland’s teachers, and I am committed to giving them the freedom to teach as I trust in their professional skills. These skills are the foundation stone of the cornerstones of Curriculum for Excellence.
“So thank you to all Scotland’s teachers. We need you and we value you.”
Michael Russell,
Cabinet Secretary for Education And Lifelong Learning

Thanks, is my 20% salary cut rescinded then?
