First Minister launches referendum consultation
Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond today launched a referendum consultation, entitled ‘Your Scotland – Your Referendum’.
Describing its purpose on the referendum consultation website he said “This consultation paper seeks views on what the ballot paper should say, what spending limits should be set on campaign groups and how the referendum should be managed and regulated. It sets out the timetable for parliamentary and public debate which will ensure that the Scottish people are able to take an informed decision about their future.”

The referendum consultation appears to offer some forward-thinking, innovative ideas which reflect where Scotland is and where it should be going. In particular, giving 16-17 year olds the right to vote has already been shown to be successful in Austria, not least in engaging this age group.
