Best of the week
There’s a whole host of us on Engage, from parents and teachers to academics and policy makers – and these basic labels don’t cover the half of it (not to mention that they aren’t mutually exclusive!).
All week long we’re seeing useful, interesting and sometimes inspiring things on the learning and education bits of the internet, whether that’s through websites or social media. Sometimes you tweet these at us.
In the past some of them have previously made it into a “Best of The Web” bit in our newsletter but we thought it’s maybe time to share them a bit wider (though you’re still very welcome to sign up for our newsletter).
So, if you fancy sharing some the most interesting or useful learning or education related bits you’ve seen with the rest of the us on Engage, feel free to tell us about it below…
Lorraine Sanda, the Scottish Government’s National Parental Involvement Coordinator suggested this:
“What about The Real Value of Education from @EdnFoundation http://scribd.com/doc/81173491/T This is what CfE is all about!”

As far as CfE is concerned I have seen and heard people asking “What’s it all about?” and if I can add my tuppence worth, it seems that in simple terms
(1) Ancient times to 20 century, focus on knowledge of subjects
(2) Late 20 century, focus on knowledge + skills
(3) 21 century focus on personal development
My unease with CfE defining the four capacities is that somebody is telling us what kind of people we should be and should produce. Sounds a bit fascist. Or at least social engineering. I’d be happier equipping people to be what they want to be.
