Profile: Higher education makes a contribution to our society, our economy, our health and our culture. It is part of our national life. We need to maintain and enhance its excellence and competitive edge in the face of the challenges currently facing the sector. In its Green Paper ‘Building a Smarter Future’, the Scottish Government has laid out a range of options for the future of Scotland’s universities. The paper reflects a broad range of views and is intended to stimulate a wide-ranging and vigorous discussion across the country which will find the unique solution Scotland needs.
