BACKGROUND TO: TEACHING SCOTLAND’S FUTURE

Teaching Scotland’s Future, the report of the review of teacher education in Scotland led by Graham Donaldson, was published in January 2011.  The report made 50 recommendations and the Scottish Government’s response to the report accepted all the recommendations, in full, in part, or in principle.
To take forward the recommendations from Teaching Scotland’s Future, the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning established the National Partnership Group for Teaching Scotland’s Future.  It is jointly chaired by Scottish Government, ADES and the Scottish Teacher Education Committee (representing the teacher education universities).

Three sub-groups of the National Partnership Group have been established to consider the detailed work in taking forward implementation of the recommendations.  The sub-groups are considering the early phase of professional learning; teachers’ career-long professional learning and professional development for leadership.

As the work of the National Partnership Group progresses, regular updates will be provided through Engage and through the National Partnership Group website.
